Recall wording was filed against John Schwandt, Maple Valley Township Supervisor on January 21, 2022, by Robin Poulsen. A Clarity Hearing was held on February 3, 2022 at 11:30 am. Wording Number 1 was determined to be of sufficient clarity. Wording Number 2 was not approved. Wording Number 1 is now valid for 180 days. At the time of filing no signature can be more than 60 days old to be counted as valid. The last date to file the recall petitions in order for the recall election to appear on the November 8, 2022 General Election ballot will be August 5, 2022 at 4 pm.
April 26, 2022 Update
Signed recall Petitions were filed on April 12, 2022. Signatures were verified and a sufficient number of signatures was determined on April 26, 2022. A Call to Election was issued on April 26, 2022. The Special Recall Election will be on the November 8, 2022 ballot. John Schwandt will appear on the ballot as the Republican candidate for Maple Valley Township Supervisor. The Montcalm County Democratic Party has been notified that they have until May 6, 2022 at 4 pm to nominate a candidate to appear on the ballot as well. Anyone wanting to file as a No Party Affiliation candidate also has until Friday, May 6, 2022 to file an Affidavit of Identity and Qualifying Petition containing a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 30 signatures to appear on the ballot. All forms can be obtained at the Montcalm County Clerk's Office located at 211 W Main Street, Stanton, MI, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.
