Financial Obligations and Court Costs

Financial Obligations

Pursuant to MCR 1.110, "Fines, costs, and other financial obligations imposed by the court must be paid at the time of assessment, except when the court allows."

Court Costs

Pursuant to MCL 769.1k, court costs for 2024 have been calculated, based upon the SCAO formula and case weighting data from the Judicial Resource Report of 2013, at an average of $693.54 per case. Court costs for the D64B Court shall not exceed $693.54 per case.

In recognition of the fact that many cases are resolved in an expedient manner, the Court will use judicial discretion when assessing court costs in criminal matters to ensure that costs are assessed in a fair and consistent manner. These costs do not include fines, probation supervision fees, reimbursements, or other costs/fees authorized by statute.

Probation oversight fees shall be assessed at $25 per month. Half of the probationary term, to the nearest month, shall be used to calculate the initial probation oversight fee (term of probation in months x ½ x $25) to ensure that cases eligible for early discharge pursuant to statute are not over-assessed. If probation supervision extends beyond the initial period assessed, each additional month of supervision shall be assessed monthly (at the final day of the month or next business day thereafter) at a rate of $25 per month.
